Wondering why we support these organizations?
KIVA
Kiva.org makes micro-loans to people from all over the world who simply need a leg-up in getting a business started so they can better their own life and the lives of their families and the people in their communities. You know how important being self-employed is to you and how much more you are able to accomplish with the freedom you have. It is the same for these people, too. They just don’t have the many advantages that you and I have and only need a little bit of help.
Talk about helping people who have integrity! The majority of these loans are paid back in record time. All the loans I’ve helped fund have been paid back in full. And most of them were paid back early.
Visit the Kiva website to learn more about what Kiva does and how your dollars are used and then join me in supporting their work.
THE TREVOR PROJECT
Perhaps you have to be gay to fully comprehend how devastating life can be sometimes for kids who are trying to come to terms with their sexuality, and then again, perhaps you just have to have a compassionate heart. The folks at The Trevor Project certainly have that compassionate heart plus a lot more.
Did you know that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth are up to four times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers?
The Trevor Project is the leading national organization focused on crisis and suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth and it operates the only accredited, nationwide, around-the-clock crisis and suicide prevention helpline for LGBTQ youth.
Your support provides the means for some gay kid somewhere to get the help they need when they feel unloved and rejected by everyone around them. As a gay man who somehow survived my youth and the onslaught of negativity heaped upon me by people who often were unaware of how hurtful their actions and speech was, I am so gratified to know that The Trevor Project is here to help gay kids find the help they need. Sometimes this hotline is their last hope and I support it so that it will be around for a long time to come.
